Sure, a grocery store opening may not make front page news for a city paper, but when you’re from a smaller town, a supermarket grand opening is a big deal. Phoenixville now boasts TWO Wegmans within a 5-mile radius so take your pick: Collegeville or Malvern. The Collegeville location opened its doors in October of 2009, with the Malvern location opening in just under one year.
Wegmans will be welcoming customers to their newest Malvern location on Sunday, July 18 at 7am. The new Malvern store is Wegmans’ 14th in Pennsylvania and its 76th store overall. Manager Kevin Lang is excited about the opening in our area. ““It’s an extremely diverse place with a strong sense of community.” We agree, Kevin!
We think the grand opening is noteworthy because Wegmans seems to bring out the foodie in us all. Inside, you’ve got the usual grocery selection, but we think its the care given to the prepared foods and the well-staffed special departments that keep customers coming back. There’s also the job-creating aspect of any larger-sized company opening its doors within driving range. The Malvern store alone will employ roughly 650 individuals in and around our area.
Wegmans has a knack for turning ho-hum food shopping into a carnival of culinary delights. We think you’ll especially love the extensive bakery, the huge spread in the cheese department and the upscale meat & seafood selections. Also crowd favorites: the market cafe, seafood bar, Asian bar, pizza, subs, and sushi. Welcome, Malvern Wegmans: another newcomer to the grocery store wars.
