West Chester’s Patriotic Pizzeria, America’s Pie

Four score and six months ago, three ambitious men founded America’s Pie on 323 E. Gay Street, which gives West Chester residents access to fresh ingredients and fantastic food.

Rather then go the conventional Italian pizza shop route, owners Matt Reed, Mike Cerenzia and Frank Kunze traded in red and green for some good ol’ red, white, and blue. Their incredibly pristine shop is decorated with patriotic gear (some donated by customers) including American flags, red, white and blue stars, and even an Uncle Sam bobblehead doll.

These Delaware County transplants have been working in the pizza business since they were teens and it’s tradition in their families to own restaurants. When they came to Chester County last September they vowed to do things differently from other restaurants and they have succeeded!

America’s Pie goes beyond your traditional pizza – they feature NY style, deep dish, Sicilian and original pies like the New Orleans (blackened chicken, honey mustard sauce, and thin, crunchy crust). Their enormous menu has salads (including build your own), wraps and clubs, hoagies, hot sandwiches, pizzas, strombolis, cheesesteaks, and a Little Americans menu – all with clever names inspired by different regions of the US.

The Lincoln sandwich (one of my top sandwich experiences ever) comes with imported ham, turkey, pepperjack cheese, oregano and pesto mayo on an Italian sesame seed roll has a fusion of flavors that creates a party in your mouth.

If you crave sweet, they have you covered with their frizzles (deep fried dough mounds covered in powdered sugar accompanied by an addicting raspberry dipping sauce) or their Georgia Peach pizza – a pizza shell baked then covered with cannoli cream, peach wedges and drizzled with raspberry sauce. After one bite of any of their appetizing masterpieces, you will be hooked like many of their other regular customers.

The very friendly owners/pizza inventors all have a passion for food, pizza and perfection and many of their menu items can’t be found anywhere else. At America’s Pie you can be sure they use the freshest ingredients and make everything from scratch, including their dough and they even crush their own tomatoes for the sauce. They waste as little as possible and give back to charity as often as they can.

America’s Pie even has its own Declaration of Independence found in every menu, stating that customers have the right to customize the menu however they wish. The customer feedback often shapes the pizzas and menu – after all it’s pizza for the people. Customers have said they have the best NY style pizza around, Chicagoans said their Chicago deep dish pizza was the best on the east coast, and others proclaim the jalapeno crab soup is the best soup they have ever had.

“I love the shop, it’s a home away from home for us! They never complain when my special needs child often knocks things over or spills and makes a mess. They just clean up with a smile and tell me not to worry, she’s always welcome! In fact my son’s first solid food was America’s Pie french fries!” said satisfied customer Desiree Lynne Cresta. “They stand by their motto that you can have the menu options the way you want! I often order for family get-togethers and my dad gets the deep dish chicken parm pizza – something they made special for him and continue to do so whenever requested! He drives 45 minutes for that pizza, so you know it is good!”

This pizza parlor goes beyond just being kid-friendly: The staff is extremely polite, very focused on customer service and go out of their way to treat everyone like family. Delivery is available to those who live within or 10-12 minutes of the store, and sometimes a little further.
