Philly Beer Week Preview: Top Five Prix Fixe Beer Dinners

This is the third installment of our Philly Beer Week Preview Series. Click here to read the first regarding Tap Takeovers and click here for the second regarding featured Homebrew Events.

Yesterday we addressed the five tap-takeovers not to miss.  Today, we’ll get a little fancy and look at the best prix-fixe beer dinners going on around the city.  After all, you do need to get some food in your system if you want to keep drinking all week.

TOP FIVE PRIX-FIXE BEER DINNERS

8 Iron Hills, 8 Head Brewers, 8 Beers, 8 Courses at Good Dog Bar

Sunday, June 5 | 6:00pm – 10:00pm | $100.00
$100 may sound steep, but you’re getting eight courses of food, each paired with a different beer from a head brewer of each Iron Hill location.  The menu looks delicious and the beer is no slouch—that price for eight beers and eight plates of food is a bargain and should definitely be taken advantage of.  Courses include a Roggenbier from the Phoenixville location paired with an open-faced, house-cured salmon pastrami on rye topped with swiss cheese and Roggenbier thousand island dressing as well as Bourbon Aged Russian Imperial Stout from the North Wales Iron Hill paired with truffled mini beef wellington with Bourbon Russian Imperial Stout Sauce.

Scandinavian Beer Dinner at Hawthorne’s

Sunday, June 12 | 6:30pm – 9:00pm | $85.00
While this dinner only offers half the courses of the last, the upside is the amazing beer that is sure to be served.  On hand for the dinner will be multiple brewers as well as Shelton Bros. Imports, which is where the beer will come from—the Shelton Bros. private collection. Expect beer from such breweries as Mikkeller, Nogne-O, Cantillion, Beer Heer, and HaandBryggeriet. A fantastic way to cap off Beer Week.

B. United Wooden Barrel Dinner at The Farmer’s Cabinet

Sunday, June 5 | 7:00pm – 10:00pm | $55.00
If you like real ale, this will be the dinner for you. Farmer’s Cabinet is featuring a four-course dinner paired with four different cask beers, gravity-poured directly from the wooden barrel to the glass.  They say to expect some “very special selections,” and Farmer’s Cabinet does not usually disappoint on the “very special” beer front.

Founders Beer Dinner at South Philadelphia Tap Room

Wednesday, June 8 | 7:00pm – 10:00pm | $90.00
S.P.T.R. is hosting their annual Founders Beer Dinner, which promised to be quite the experience.  Described as “extravagant” and “over-the-top,” Chef Brian Schroeder will prepare a lavish meal and plenty of rare Founders beers will be available (including, of course, the Kentucky Breakfast Stout).  S.P.T.R. says the event will sell out fast, so be sure to call and snatch up your tickets!

The Chef, The Brewer and The Farmer

Stoudt’s at Osteria with Green Meadow Farm | Sunday, June 5 | 5:30pm – 9:00pm | $100.00
Flying Fish at JG Domestic with TBA | Tuesday, June 7 | 7:00pm – 10:00pm | $75.00
Victory at Fork with Green Meadow Farm | Wednesday, June 8 | 6:30pm – 10:00pm | $45.00
Sly Fox at Southwark with Country Time Farms | Thursday, June 9 | 7:00pm – 10:30pm | $65.00
Yards at Marathon with Marathon Farm | Sunday, June 12 | 2:00pm – 6:00pm | $35.00
There are five Chef, Brewer and Farmer events during beer week, and they all sound too good to pass up.  Chefs and will team up with brewers and farmers in this 100% local experience to create menus and pairings using ingredients from the farms and beers from the breweries.  Be sure to check out at least one of these great events to support local businesses.
