The Date:

NANCY:  The plan was to go to the winery first and then to Marly’s for dinner. Andrew lives in Phoenixville, so I actually met him outside his house and we walked to the winery together. It was nice to walk around Phoenixville, I have only been there one other time.

ANDREW: We walked into Phoenixville to Black Walnut Winery for wine tasting and then continued on to Marly’s for dinner. This was an amazing date with lots of laughter and fun.

First Impressions?

NANCY: Andrew wore a polo shirt and nice shorts, he looked nice, very clean cut. It was a warm night so it was a good outfit for walking. He’s very all-American looking, which is my type.

ANDREW: Nancy was wearing a light fabric gray sundress. She looked absolutely beautiful and she is definitely my type.

The Conversation:

NANCY: We talked about work and families, and the food and drinks we were having. It wasn’t awkward and we were able to find things to talk about all night. I think the first conversation started with Andrew complimenting me, which was sweet.

ANDREW: We talked about what has been keeping us busy in our lives and it was a nice and easy conversation.

Black Walnut Winery Tasting Room:

NANCY: I had heard of the Black Walnut Winery from some friends, so I was excited to go. Alan, the tasting room manager, supervised our tasting and he was very knowledgeable but not intimidating. I felt like I learned a lot about wine. We took a bottle to dinner at Marly’s and then each of us individually bought bottles for ourselves to take home.

The Restaurant:

NANCY: I had not heard of Marly’s before, but I loved it. The atmosphere was great. It’s decorated in a really homey but nice fashion – exposed brick, big windows – definitely my style. The menu had TONS of options, it was hard to choose just one thing.

ANDREW: I have not been to the Black Walnut Winery or Marly’s, but both are very good places to spend time with someone you care about. The atmosphere of both places was very relaxed, fun and the employees were very knowledgeable and friendly. The menus were very easy to read with many excellent choices.

The Service:

NANCY: The service at both places was excellent! Alan at BWW was patient with our questions about wine. And Michelle, our waitress at Marly’s, was also very knowledgeable about all the menu items and was a perfect server – attentive but not lingering around too much.

ANDREW: The service was very good, friendly and knowledgeable about the menus.

Drinks:

NANCY: We tasted wine at the winery of course, which was lovely. We tried four red wines, three whites and a port-style wine. I liked all of them and loved some. My favorite was the Vidal Blanc, which was a light white wine, perfect for summer by the pool. I also like the Pinot Noir, which was the wine we chose to take to our dinner at Marly’s. It paired well with all our foods as it was flexible but seemed to go best with red meat or seafood.

The Food:

NANCY: I ordered the bento box appetizer, which had 2 each of ribs, skewered shrimp, mini crab cakes, and steamed dumplings.  For dinner I had a hanger steak with corn and edamame risotto and green beans. It was ah-mazing. My steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare as asked and the risotto was very flavorful. I would definitely order it again!

ANDREW: We both ordered an appetizer.I had clams with mushrooms and cheese. For the main course, she had steak and I had sirloin.

Conversation and Chemistry:

NANCY:  We talked easily about a number of things. I think there was some chemistry.

ANDREW: There was definitely chemistry there and had a lot to talk about during our date.

Did you exchange numbers?

NANCY: Yes

ANDREW: Yup, I have her number!

Was it a Match?

NANCY: I think it’s a little early to say if it’s a romantic match for sure, but I would like to go out again.

ANDREW:  I would like to say that it was a good match.

Was there a kiss?

NANCY: There was a short kiss at the end of our date when Andrew walked me to my car.

ANDREW: There was a hug and kiss at the end of the date.

Will there be a second date?

NANCY: I think so.

ANDREW: I definitely believe there will be a second date.

How did you leave it?

NANCY: We exchanged numbers and said we’d text or call and perhaps go out next week.

ANDREW: We are going to meet up this week for drinks in Center City, Philadelphia.
