Chef Moon of Chabaa Thai Bistro to Host Fruit and Vegetable Carving Courses

Have you met Chef Moon Krapugthong of Chabaa Thai Bistro? The always-friendly, extremely-talented chef of Manayunk invites you to take part in her upcoming series of cooking classes that focus in on Fruit and Vegetable Carving.

As she reveals, “Fruit and vegetable carving is not simply a beautiful hobby; at higher levels it is also an artistic performance. In this unique art form, the fruit or vegetable becomes the medium through which the artist expresses his or her passions, desires, and emotions. In a sense, the fruit or vegetable is much like the painter’s blank canvas, or the sculptor’s marble slab.”

If you have dined at either Chabaa Thai or the past Mango Moon, you may have spotted the chef mastering this art form as part of your dinner plate’s decor. She suggests that her approach to carving focuses more on the process of carving than the completed piece.

“This is because it is through the ‘act of carving’ that the one develops a moment-to-moment relationship with the chosen fruit or vegetable. In this way, carving can become a source of meditation, peace, and self-fulfillment,” she states.

Moon upcoming carving courses, with the first beginner course held tonight, Aug. 22, will be composed of 6-8 students and will progress from the basic fundamentals to more esoteric techniques. Remaining beginner courses will take place on Aug. 27 and Aug. 28. Intermediate and advanced courses will be held through Sept. and Oct.
