Gasland Screening with Filmmaker Josh Fox Coming in September to Franklin Commons

Josh Fox, the creator of the Oscar-nominated documentery “Gasland” is coming to Phoenixville, on Wednesday, September 7th, 2011!

In “Gasland,” Fox creates a road-movie expose of the dangers “fracking” poses to the environment, such as generating flammable tap water. What is tracking, you ask? As Fox reveals on his film’s website, “Hydraulic fracturing or fracking is a means of natural gas extraction employed in deep natural gas well drilling. Once a well is drilled, millions of gallons of water, sand and proprietary chemicals are injected, under high pressure, into a well. The pressure fractures the shale and props open fissures that enable natural gas to flow more freely out of the well.”

To allow for locals to become educated on the dangers of fracking, Fox is coming to Franklin Commons (400 Franklin Ave., Phoenixville) and hosting an all-invited forum between himself, state legislators, and the public. Following the discussions, attendees will screen “Gasland.”

The evening will begin at 6 pm with dinner and drinks (evening is BYOB), followed by the discussions and film screening. Tickets for the full event are available at a donation of $35 per person, and may be secured by emailing [email protected]. Guests may also just attend the discussion and film screening, beginning at 7pm, for only $10 per person.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Protecting Our Waters, a grassroots alliance committed to protecting the Delaware River Basin, the state of Pennsylvania, and the region from unconventional gas drilling and other threats to our drinking water, environment, and public health.
