The space that was Newton’s On State won’t be empty long. I caught up with Jack and Sam Mavraj who have signed a lease and taken the keys to the space. They have set an aggressive schedule to open a new Italian restaurant, La Verona, by November 1st.
The inside of the space has been gutted, so the partners have some hard work ahead of them before the opening. “Tomorrow we will go full speed,” Jack said with a grin.
Jack most recently worked at Giuseppe’s Italian Restaurant in Newtown Square and has also worked in Italian restaurants in Manhattan. Sam has worked at Duling Kurtz Restaurant in Exton, PA.
La Verona is named after a province in Northern Italy. Their new restaurant will feature pasta, pizza, veal and chicken dishes. They may open as a BYOB at first until they finalize arrangements on a liquor license.
