Over the last few months, there has been a lot of speculation over what was going on at the previous site of Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse in the Valley Fair Shopping Center on Swedesford Road. The guessing is over! McKenzie Brew House debuted their third location there on Monday night, Dec. 20.
The new restaurant features a 30-seat bar complete with flat screen televisions and lounge area with a fireplace. The main dining room offers cozy booths and another fireplace, with the focal point being a view of the eye-catching and sleek brewing room. There is also a private dining room that can seat up to 50.
The focus here, of course, is beer! The new brewing system is a direct fire 10 barrel system from Premier Stainless. While always offering their trademark six beers, including the award-winning Saison Vautour, this system will allow Brewmaster Ryan Michaels to brew a wider range of styles, especially IPAs and more Belgian varieties. Currently, one of his seasonal brews includes the just-released La Soeur Mechant, a Belgian-style strong pale ale that has soured in apple brandy and wine barrels. However, for the non-beer crowds, McKenzie Brew House also offers a complete bar and drink specials daily.
McKenzie’s newest location’s menu continues to be something for everyone. Executive Chef Matthew Wagner excels in creating palate-pleasing gourmet grub–everything from burgers to ribs, fresh fish to steak, street tacos to pastas, and of course, salads to pizza. (We recommend the yellow and red beet and bleu salad topped with their incredible, no-filler crab cake.)
The addition of his daily specials makes the top-notch menu even better and with owner Bill Mangan’s constant addition of beer pairings for many menu items, local craft beer lovers will quickly rejoice. Oh, and they haven’t forgotten about pleasing families, either (Mangan is a family man!). The new Devon location has a kids-friendly menu available, as well.
McKenzie Brew House’s Devon location will also offer live music on Friday and Saturday nights.
