Beat the Heat with Swig’s Grown-Up Watermelon-Blackberry Slushy

By Sara Moody, Owner of Swig – Professional Bartending & Events

I’m a cold-weather girl all the way, and this heat’s got me down—way down. The only way to lift my spirits (with spirits) in this weather is a delicious, frozen treat.

A Grown-Up Watermelon-Blackberry Slushy

This fun and fruity fruition is super versatile. Switch up the fruits or liquors to your personal taste or your party’s palate—mango and peach with tequila, maybe strawberry and mango with rum. Or for some extra oohs and aahs—and sure, maybe a little anti-oxidant boost, try organic products—even organic liquor!—in this crowd pleaser. Taste tests can be a laugh-out-loud activity and a great conversation starter, so just get your hands in there (but out of the blender—safety first!) and have some fun!

Directions:

  • 2 cups seedless watermelon (or buy seeded and strain, but this is way easier)
  • 1 container (6oz) blackberries
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup of your favorite vodka

Method:

1. In a blender or food processor, puree the watermelon and blackberries until smooth. Pour the mixtures into empty ice trays and freeze for 3-4 hours.

2. Throw the ice cubes back in the blender along with the sugar and your favorite spirit, blend until smooth.  Garnish with a lime twist. Or for a little extra sweet add a sugared rim. Imbibe and enjoy!
