Egg Roll and Hot Dog Mash-Up Coming to Downtown West Chester

A new banner promises West Chester is on the brink of a new cylindrical foods era.

“Coming Soon: Roll DogZ— Gourmet Hot Dogs and Egg Rolls!

The sign touts the opening of a new shop that offers the all-American hot dog AND the crunchy, deep-fried Chinese appetizer commonly referred to as the egg roll.

Is your mind blown yet?

The banner recently appeared in the window of the late, great West Chester Scoop Ice Cream Shop—and we were curious about the “roll out” of this awesome hot dog shop that features two of our favorite rounded foods.

Our search led us to Jason Sciore. Jason spent twelve years in West Chester and met his wife at West Chester University, and he is the man behind this ingenious international pairing. Jason explained Roll DogZ is a hot dog shop first, with a mission “to serve West Chester customers a quality snack or meal while on the go at an affordable price.” Roll DogZ plans on opening their doors on January 28th.

Jason explained, “Roll Dogz will be offering a delicious ¼ pound all beef hot dog with a variety of toppings to choose from. Our hot dogs will be served on a specialty split top roll, baked fresh and delivered every day.”

The hot dog shop will offer six distinct gourmet dogs, all named after borough streets. The Darlington Dog will be their signature hot dog—and will be served with chili, cheddar cheese, jalapenos and onions. Hungry diners will also be able to choose from the High Street Dog, Matlack Dog, and the Gay Street Dog. Customizing your own hot dog is also an option. Check out the tentative menu here.

Of course, I had to ask Jason about the egg roll connection. “I am fascinated by a good egg roll and I believe it is something almost everyone enjoys eating, much like a hot dog,” he said.  “Putting the two together for sale, made me come up with the name Roll Dogz — ‘Roll’ for the egg rolls and ‘DogZ’ for the hot dogs.”

Roll Dogz is offering a number of egg rolls, including a Vietnamese egg roll, Philly Cheese Steak roll, Vegetarian roll, a buffalo chicken roll, and more. “Our unique dipping sauces paired with each egg roll are delicious,” Jason said.

Roll Dogz will also offer waffle fries, coffee and soda and has plans for expansion. They also plan on hosting business to business events and will be offering a number of catering options.

Roll Dogz will be open late night. Hours of operation are expected to be Monday–Wednesday, 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Thursday–Saturday, 11 a.m.–2 a.m.; and closed on Sunday.
