The Ultimate Holiday Cookie List

What happens when almost 600 food bloggers from across the world each share their ultimate holiday cookie recipe?

You guessed it: hundreds upon hundreds of super creative, flavorful, beautiful and delicious creations. More than 20,000 cookies were shipped around the world (each participant gave and received three dozen cookies) and over $4400 was raised for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer.

The 2nd Annual Great Good Blogger ‘results’ are posted here and here. From chocolate chips and biscotti to cutouts and iced delights, there’s guaranteed to be something here for you. And just because you might be busy wrapping gifts and checking off that holiday to-do list, I’m giving you a preview of some of the most delicious looking creations.

I’m also sharing  my recipe for Toblerone cookies — This is the standard chocolate chip cookie’s rich cousin. Using chopped Toblerone (or high-quality Swiss chocolate of choice) adds a certain luxe quality to these cookies, and chopped salted almonds provides the addictive balance of salty and sweet.

Swiss Chocolate Salty Almond Cookies

The classic chocolate-studded holiday cookies with a twist – chopped pieces of Toblerone Swiss chocolate, toasted salted almonds, in an almond cookie.

Ingredients:

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 1/4 cups (2 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 4 3.52 oz milk chocolate Toblerone bars, chopped into chunks
  • 1 cup roasted salted almonds, coarsely chopped

Directions:

Whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. In a large bowl, using a mixer, beat butter and sugars on medium-high until light and fluffy. Reduce speed to medium-low and beat in eggs, one at a time, followed by the almond extract. Mix in flour mixture just until incorporated; fold in chocolate chunks and almonds.

Chill dough in the refrigerator for at least an hour. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Scoop 1 Tbsp balls of dough onto sheet, three inches apart. Bake until edges are golden brown, about 8-10 minutes. Let cool on sheets for 5 minutes. Transfer cookies to a wire rack and let cool. Enjoy!
