Evil or Genius? This is the theme of the next West Chester Story Slam, which unfolds at Side Bar & Restaurant on Tuesday, March 12th. Whether you take the stage to tell your story, or simply hang out and listen, the Story Slam is a unique event to enjoy with friends. What is meant by the theme, Evil or Genius? According to the West Chester Story Slam website, March’s theme gives storytellers the choice of telling stories about something Evil or Genius? Maybe both? Do you have a story about meeting someone who was an Evil Genius? Perhaps it was your college roommate, or someone you knew in high school. Could it be your ex? Maybe you pitched or even executed an idea you thought was ingenious and someone perceived it as evil. Ideas often have unintended consequences as they ripple out into the atmosphere. You story could just be about being a genius – or be solely about being evil. One or the other, or both.
You may be asking – what exactly is a Story Slam?
It’s an event where anyone can take the stage and tell a story based on the night’s theme. Some stories are hilarious, others are sad. People reveal themselves through their stories. Three judges determine the night’s winner, who advances to November’s Grand Slam. The judging is based on two criteria – content and presentation. Each story should be no longer than five minutes long and based on the night’s theme. No props, no music and no notes are allowed. Last month’s event was standing room only, so order your reserved seats early. Remember – you do not have to tell a story, though here’s a word of warning: Folks who come to watch often end up jumping on stage and telling a story themselves.
