Village Wine Spot to Open at Cooking Spotlight

Cooking Spotlight, located in the Village at Eland Shopping Center in Phoenixville is poised to open a wine tasting outpost, Village Wine Spot, adjacent to their popular demonstration kitchen. The retail store will exclusively offer wines from acclaimed winemaker Crossing Vineyards, based in Washington Crossing, PA.

Crossing Vineyards produces a large variety of wines that are sure to please the most discerning oenophiles. Recently, Crossing Vineyards won Top Gold in the prestigious 2013 Governor’s Cup for Fruit Wine at The Pennsylvania Farm Show for their Wild Berry as well as the Best Red Wine in Pennsylvania for their ‘06 merlot in the 2013 Pennsylvania Wine Society Excellence Competition. This will be Crossing Vineyards first foray into Chester County to sell their wines.

Cooking Spotlight’s owner, Vicky Hanko, explains that “the brand new tasting room and retail store will employ knowledgeable staff who will guide visitors through tastings of wines as well as have bottles and cases for sale. Once the weather warms up, tables with umbrellas will grace an outdoor seating area where flights of wine can be enjoyed along with locally sourced lite bites, such as cheese plates and hummus platters.”

When locals come to take one of Cooking Spotlight’s popular chef demonstration or hands-on classes, such as Do Ahead Backyard BBQ or Small Plates, Big Flavor, students will have the option of purchasing wine to go along with the food they will enjoy. This will add a new, enjoyable element to the already entertaining cooking experience. Look for Village Wine Spot to debut near the end of May.

If you are looking for some deliciously fun entertainment, come see local natural foods chef Joanie White at Cooking Spotlight on May 11th. Chef Joanie will be presenting a class entitled Pura Vida: Learn Tasty Costa Rican Dishes. Chef Joanie has spent multiple vacations exploring Costa Rica and calls it her second home. She explains that “Costa Ricans really enjoy their food and life, that’s why they refer to their country as pura vida, literally translated as pure life. The menu includes avocado and shrimp ceviche, Costa Rican style beef stew with vegetables, black beans and rice, crispy plantains and fresh orange pudding with starfruit.
