First Look: Inside Exton’s Newest Craft Beer Spot — The Pour House

Pour House, Exterior

News  had spread. The Pour House was movin’ in to Exton. Good bye Cheeseburger Paradise. Hello Better Beer Bar! The question remains, how much better?

There’s something peculiar when entering a franchised establishment and seeing respectable beer on tap. I’m not even referring to Bell’s Two Hearted or the ever so popular Allagash White (both incredible by the way). We’re talking Firestone Walker Wookey Jack, Oskar Blues Pale Ale, Dogfish My Antonia and much, much more. Bottom line: thirty rotating taps, one hundred bottle selections and a hand pump. Jaw dropped.

Inside, Pour House

I’m so accustomed to enjoying craft beer at my local watering holes that I feel somewhat out of my element in something as refined and polished as the Pour House. This place is impressive across the board. Trust me, when you see the list, it won’t take long to look past the “corporate” feel and order up a beer.

Pour House, Cask But The Pour House isn’t all smoke and mirrors. This is a place that’s done its homework. For starters, there’s plenty of servers at the bar, so you’re never waiting long for anything. My bartender was very accommodating, informing me of the day’s specials and recommendations on the menu. She also offered to let me sample anything that spiked my attention. These girls are there to earn their keep and do an astounding job.

As for the grub portion of the trip, the menu is pretty “to the point.” Most of it is standard pub fare, which is absolutely fine with me. I was pretty much looking for something to munch on while enjoying an American Strong Ale from Stone, which FYI, was only $4 that day. So if you’re a Stone Brewing Company fan such as myself, I recommend checking the Pour House on a Tuesday.

I went with the Pretzel Bites per recommendation. You can never go wrong with Pretzel anything at a Bar. Four bucks and you receive a pretty nice size bowl of bites with cheese to dip away. I’d get them again for sure.

Now, does this mean I am going to ditch my staple hang for The Pour House? Not at all. I’m all about the charm of the local scene. I mean, sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name (hear the lyrics as you read away?). That’s just something I hold near and dear to my pint. Pour House is most definitely a great place for sporadic visits here and there, but I don’t foresee everyone yelling “Hey Norm!” anytime soon.

In conclusion, yes, check this place out this weekend, but be prepared.  I heard this place is jammin’ on weekends. From what I read in the ole’ newsfeed, call ahead seating is available. This might be the only disappointment you’ll have with your visit. Enjoy!
