Kooma of West Chester Opens in New Location

It’s been a pleasure to see Kooma thrive as a go-to spot to fill up on creative, fresh sushi and fine Asian-fusion cuisine in downtown West Chester, and West Chester Dish is thrilled to celebrate with them as they open their doors to their swanky new home (only a few blocks away) at 123 North Church Street.

It’s been a long time in the making, but this is the week that Kooma of West Chester can finally welcome their loyal patrons at their beautiful, brand-spanking-new location. Their success and fan base outgrew their more intimate space along Gay Street and we’ve been watching the construction, patiently waiting to explore their new digs.  It’s tough to incorporate a fine-dining atmosphere with an active nightlife environment, so it only made sense to move their location to accommodate the needs of their customers.

The interior of their new spot is ultra-modern with all-white decor, substantial seating and LCD screens lining the floor bringing a city-style flair to downtown. Their popular cocktails and ‘tinis (along with craft beer and wine selections) will be served from their fully stocked and crowd-accommodating bar that’s remarkable in both size and presentation. Their above-par maki, sashimi and sushi specialties will be prepared at an equally impressive sushi bar that seems to fulfill any sushi chef’s dreams. They even added a private party room for special events and groups.

Owner Scott Kim has been in West Chester for 11 years and is passionate about the new space. “It’s just a better and bigger atmosphere with room to accommodate our customers,” he said. His favorite element of the new design? The glowing, colorful circles on the walls. “Our first location had small illuminated spheres on the wall so this modern design is reminiscent of the “old Kooma” and a nod to the years there, but we are excited to have what we are calling “the new generation of Kooma.”

West Chester local, and Kooma regular, Kim DeCostanza says, “It looks fantastic inside. I have always loved the vibe at Kooma and when I need a night to break out of my skin a little, it’s the best spot in town to grab a cocktail and a couple rolls.”

Their hours are for the grand reopening week are as follows: Friday, Sept. 20, and Saturday, Sept. 21, 4:30 p.m.–2 a.m.; Sunday, Sept. 22, 5 p.m.–9 p.m.
