Party Planning 101: How To Host a Breaking Bad Finale Bash Packed Themed Snacks

Breaking Bad is the show no one can stop talking about this year. It’s my favorite show on TV so, of course, I’ve been one of the worst offenders. But, this Sunday I found a way to talk about my obsession in food-themed menu form. Yup, Breaking Bad party snacks.

With just one episode remaining in the series, it’s time to get serious about our watch parties. Chips and salsa? Sounds like child’s play to me. I decided to make a menu with some throwbacks to earlier seasons—“Rooftop” Pizza Dip, Cheesy “Ricin” Bean Dip and my own version of beloved Los Pollos Hermanos’ fried chicken.

I started the “Ricin” bean dip first because I knew I could set it aside after heating it and before adding the cheese to crisp on top. It was really nice to be able to throw it in the oven for 5 extra minutes just as my guests arrived so they could experience the warm, cheesy dip as fresh as possible. Following the recipe at Host the Toast, I chopped up my delicious end-of-season tomatoes, peppers and onions in small, bite-sized pieces. It took me no time at all to put this dish together, which left me plenty of time to move on to the other two snacks before my guests arrived.

Next came the pizza dip. Also from Host the Toast, this dip looked like the perfect appetizer to heat just as the show started for something easy to snack on during the tense hour of TV. And who can resist the rooftop pizza reference from season three? I put the dip together and put it in the fridge until I was ready to heat it up later in the evening. The dip held up really well for the hour or two it sat in the fridge. One thing I might change for next time would be to cut the mozzarella on top of the dip into smaller chunks. This will make it so much easier to eat!

Finally I started in on the “fried” chicken. I wasn’t quite ready to do any frying in my tiny studio—although chicken-scented sheets couldn’t be too bad—so I found a great recipe for spicy oven-fried chicken. I did alter this recipe a bit to fit my tastes, though. Instead of regular mayo to bind the chicken to the breading I used wasabi mayo, which is a truly fantastic invention. I also supplemented some of the crushed corn chips with fritos. I was not disappointed. When I was cleaning up after the party I realized that I totally should have used “Funyuns” as a nod to Jesse’s profound “Funyuns are awesome!!” quote from season two.

I have to say that these tasty apps made my watch party a success. They were all savory and delicious—just the type of comfort you need when watching the harrowing end to such an incredible series. I highly recommend testing out one (or all) of these during your series finale party!
