Best Cup of Joe You’ll Ever Have: Chestnut Hill’s Starbucks Boasts Rare “Rich Man’s Coffee Maker”

Starbucks clover machineDid you know that Chestnut Hill’s Starbucks houses a $15,000 coffee maker? Coffee lovers when you are finished picking up your jaw, take note: this special machine, called The Clover, is the diamond of the Philly suburbs coffee culture.

According to Starbucks:

“The Clover brewing system uses innovative vacuum-press technology to create your cup right in front of you. You watch as a stainless steel filter lowers into the brew chamber. Hot water is added at a precise temperature to brew your coffee for an ideal length of time. The Clover brewing system controls brew time and temperature digitally, as even small changes here can dramatically affect the outcome you taste in the cup. A thermal blanket surrounds the brew chamber to keep water within 1 degree Fahrenheit of the ideal temperature. After the coffee brews, it is pulled through a 70-micron filter. The resulting grounds are pushed out of the top of the machine. The coffee itself flows into your cup—hot, aromatic and amazingly flavorful.”

Writer Don Henry tasted the coffee and admits, “I could tell a difference between the auto drip version and the Clover brew. The Clover coffee tasted more like the beans smell. But it’s also the same effect I get when I ground my coffee into a fine powder and run it through my Mr. Coffee. You’ll definitely get more of the bean that way too.”
