They Financed $20 Million in Economic Development & You Might Not Know Their Name

Last year, the Chester County Economic Development Council (CCEDC) and its partners financed more than $20 million in economic development projects. That whopping investment in the community contributes to making Chester County, Pennsylvania, one of the most desirable counties nationwide. In fact, Chester County recently placed in the top 100 Easiest Counties in which to live across the United States, according to a study by the New York Times.

The Chester County Economic Development Council honored the organization’s 500-plus volunteers at the Chester County Intermediate Unit. CCEDC volunteers work on a variety of projects in the community, from Smart Energy Initiatives to Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology. Read more.

The CCEDC partnered with the World Forum for Foreign Direct Investment to host a guided bus tour featuring Chester County’s Route 29 corridor, one of the major bio/pharma hubs in the United States. This area’s innovation and incredible growth have attracted industry giants like Saint Gobain, a French chemical company that just announced plans to build a major new headquarters. The Manufacturers Alliance of Chester and Delaware Counties, a partnership of the Chester County Economic Development Council and Delaware County Community College, recently took Owen J. Roberts High School students on a tour of Omega Design Corp. to learn about careers in manufacturing as part of a workplace exposure initiative. Additional excursions are being planned, with an eye toward integration into the regular curriculum. Read more about this first-ever initiative.

CCEDC’s 14th Annual Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology (GETT) event was hosted by ITAG, the Innovative Technology Action Group. About 500 girls attended the conference, which included sessions on robotics, nuclear power, biomedical engineering, forensics, environmental science and much more.
