Farm to Table Before It Was Cool: Group Reconnecting Diners to the Field Since ‘99

The farm-to-table movement may be at the forefront of most of our food consciousnesses these days, but it’s far from a new concept. For 15 years, Outstanding in the Field has been reconnecting diners with the origins of food, the land and the local farmers and food artisans who cultivate it.

Outstanding in the Field’s “restaurant without walls” travels the country, setting long tables in fields, on farms, beachside or perhaps in a garden—depending on the location—and then the feast begins. Ingredients for the meal are almost exclusively local, oftentimes prepared by a locally renowned chef. After a tour of the site, all participants join in a communal meal.

Tickets sell out almost immediately, which is the case for the next local event, to be held September 14 at Blooming Glen Farm in Perkasie with esteemed Lehigh Valley Chef Chizmar and his culinary team of Bolete. However, PA Eats will be on the scene, and we encourage you to follow along with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for an inside look at this unique culinary celebration! Once you’ve gotten a taste, we know you’ll want to visit Outstanding in the Field’s full schedule of events for 2014.
