Mother-Daughter Writers Launch New Heart Healthy Cookbook

I first met Ann Crile Esselstyn and her daughter, Jane Esselstyn, in Austin, Tx., in 2010. They were teaching plant-based cooking classes at an Engine 2 Retreat, and I perched myself in the front row of their classroom because I wanted to learn everything I could from them. At the time, I wasn’t quite sure how my Italian grandmother’s lasagna could ever taste delicious without using dairy and meat products, but I trusted Ann and Jane from the get-go. Their new book, The Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease Cookbook, is an extension of their classes.

The name Esselstyn may ring a bell because Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., MD, Ann’s husband, was featured in the groundbreaking documentary Forks Over Knives, where his work at the Cleveland Clinic was highlighted as a way to prevent and reverse heart disease. Their son, Rip Esselstyn, scribed the Engine 2 Diet, which quickly became a New York Times bestseller. And working as a plant-strong team, this family has increased awareness to plant-based eating, helping many, many people return to optimal health.

Ann works with many of Dr. Esselstyn’s patients and, over the years, has created quite an arsenal of plant-based recipes that are made without added oil, salt or sugar. And, did I mention that this is the most delicious food you will ever eat?

Know someone who needs to lose weight or get their cholesterol in check? Well, this book is the primer needed to return to wellness. This dynamic mother-daughter duo has all the recipes needed to begin a journey on the road to wellness and good health. And, all while tasting delicious.
