Upcoming Sly Fox Festival Honors the Can with Food Trucks, Music, Games & More (Sept. 27)

Unless you spend all of your time indoors, you’ve probably walked past or even joined in on a game of Kan Jam. This tailgating game has gained popularity since its introduction back in the 1990s. To play Kan Jam, imagine the game of horseshoes, with teammates on either end of the court. Now, replace those pins with 2-foot tall open-topped cans (Kans), and instead of horseshoes, players throw a flying disc (picture a frisbee). The most notable difference, though, is that teammates help one another score points by deflecting the disc into the Kan.

Now that you’re up to speed on the Kan Jam scene, you should also know that Sly Fox Brewing Company has held a festival every year since 2011 dedicated to this awesome game known for encouraging friendly competition while enjoying a cold brew outdoors. On September 27, make your way to the annual Sly Fox Can Jam Free Music Festival, where 120 teams will participate in a Kan Jam tournament, can in hand. Sly Fox has slightly modified the official rules to state that each player participating in the tournament must always be holding a can of beer (preferably of the Sly Fox variety) and may only deflect their teammate’s throw with one hand. Winners will receive not only this year’s bragging rights, but also their team’s combined weight in Sly Fox canned beer.

And we couldn’t possibly forget to mention the other awesome aspects of this free festival. Spectators and Kan Jam participants alike will enjoy plenty of food options by way of the trendy food truck. While munching on some local bites, crowdgoers will dance the day away to some melodic tunes from a fantastic line-up of local musicians like The Whiskeyhickon Boys and Hoots and Hellmouth. The Kan Jam tournament begins at 9 a.m. with the Can Jam Music Festival following at 2 p.m.
