Why You Wish You Were Spotlucking

spotluck_phones_1Restaurant-goers in the nation’s capital recently acquired a serious mobile app upgrade. Spotluck, introduced in June 2014, provides an answer to the age-old question: “Where should we go out to eat tonight?” In addition to pointing diners in the right direction of their dining desires, it also offers discounts at these restaurants with the simple spin of a virtual wheel.

The spin will randomly select one restaurant for users and attach a discount to it that typically ranges from 10–30% off of your entire bill. The other restaurants not selected in that spin will still offer discounts, but at a lower rate. Discounts are typically on the higher end when the restaurants need to fill seats; for example, spinning the wheel Monday at 6 p.m. will likely yield a larger discount than a spin on Friday at 6 p.m.

Founded by Cherian Thomas and Brad Sayler, Spotluck provides hyper-local mobile marketing exposure, yield management, and BIG DATA solutions to local restaurants.

CEO Thomas said that his goal is, not only to offer users discounts, but also, to ramp up business for local establishments. It plans on driving on-demand walk-in traffic by continuously fluctuating incentives based on day, time, weather, and other factors that affect restaurant occupancy. Plus, the Spotluck App offers its users (“Spotluckers”) a fun new spin on dining to help them discover (and decide) where to eat. Spotluck is now available in the App Store and on Google Play.

Stay tuned to PA Eats to see if this app will make its way to the Philadelphia area!
