Kick in to Fund a Piece of Philadelphia & NYC Restaurant History—The Automat Movie

What started as curiosity has turned into hundreds of hours of interviews and archival research about The Automat, an early twentieth century cafeteria chain that revolutionized the way people in New York City and Philadelphia dined. Make your mark on history by funding this documentary film through its completion via Kickstarter!

The goal of the documentary is to educate viewers about this fascinating piece of history by telling the story of entrepreneurs Joseph Horn and Frank Hardart, who made The Automat the dominant American restaurant company for 50 years.

Money raised via Kickstarter will help the filmmakers complete shooting of the documentary and begin post-production work. For your contribution, you’ll be rewarded with a range of perks based on your generosity: recognition in The Automat film credits, Automat note cards, a bag of Horn & Hardart coffee, a fresh-baked apple pie, a six-person food tour of New York City, associate producer credit in the film and more.
