Beekman Boys Want to Give Away over $18,000 to Small Farmers

Is there nothing the Beekman Boys can’t do? After winning CBS’s The Amazing Race in 2012 and paying off their Sharon Springs Farm mortgage, the couple saw a need for a product that would pay forward their successes and help to stimulate other small farmers in America. And that’s exactly how their “Beekman 1802 Mortgage Lifter Pasta Sauce” came to life in 2013. By mid-year 2014, they were able to give away $15,000 of their profits to four small farms.

Next month the boys will be at it again, with one lucky farmer receiving a $15,000 “lift” and three other small farms getting “mini-lifts” of $1,049. “This money isn’t awarded based on need,” Ridge says. “There are many organizations better equipped than we are to handle charity.” Kilmer-Purcell adds: “Our expert panel of agricultural judges rewards the farms based on their innovative approach to small agriculture, their overall business plan and their current growth pattern. These awards are designed to give vibrant small farms the ‘lift’ they need to take their business to the next level.”
