Philadelphia restaurant proprietor Jake Sudderth, known for the used bookstore Read and Eat as well as Bee Burger and Mt. Airy Noodle House, has opened his first sit-down eatery in the Mt. Airy neighborhood.

His new operation coined Alma Mater is a collegiate-themed bar and restaurant that features a beer garden. With inspiration from the multitude of universities in the region, Sudderth envisions his new spot to be a gathering place for local alumni during homecoming celebrations and collegiate sporting events. With 16 beers on tap and another 30 bottled brews, Alma Mater looks to focus on local microbreweries.
