Black Walnut Winery Pours Its Passion into Partnerships

Whether it’s the kiss of the sun to the grape, the rain to the soil or the flow of the wine to the bottle, making a great vintage vino has always involved partnerships. It took the partnership of owners Lance and Val Castle and Jack and Karen Kuhn to create the idea that is now Black Walnut Winery—and they continue to be passionate about forming long-lasting relationships within the community that are meaningful, productive and beneficial.

Partnered Pubs

Victory Brew Pub Parkesburg

Victory at Parkesburg

We already know that Victory’s Brew Pubs are purveyors of some of the finest brews in the area, not to mention the outstanding gastropub fare being seasonally served. But did you know that several vintages of Black Walnut’s Cabernet Sauvignon are poured at Victory’s Parkesburg Brew Pub? Drew Christy, restaurant manager, adds, “We are thrilled to carry Black Walnut Wines. Our guests have been enjoying fan-favorite Apple Wine since we opened last year.”

Sly Fox Brewery and Tastin’ Room

The Sly Fox Brewery and Tastin’ Room in Pottstown has always been one of our favorite go-to spots for enjoying pizza, wings, salads and other munchies. Here’s another reason to love Sly Fox: they feature Black Walnut wine on tap and have done so for the last several years. The two businesses also collaborate and attend many local events together throughout the year.

Mr. E’s Tavern

Considered a neighborhood favorite watering hole where “everybody knows your name,” this local sports haven throws down some comforting tavern fare including soups, seafood, wings, steaks and pasta. In addition to finding a glass (or two) of wine while dining, Black Walnut periodically conducts perfect wine pairings with this casual menu on location.

Partnered Artisans

Botanical Bubbles

Black Walnut Winery Botanical Bubbles

Based in Coatesville, this notions and novelty company features handmade soaps, lotions, lip balms and more, all of which are available for purchase at both Black Walnut Winery locations. Owner/creator Sherry Jarvis creates bar and hand soaps as well as lotions using black walnut oils and shells and lip balms using the wines of Black Walnut. Sherry says, “Botanical Bubbles enjoys working with local small businesses to create unique products. Everyone at Black Walnut Winery is great to work with. They believe in supporting the local economy and have a family-friendly atmosphere that makes it a fun place to hang out.”

Bacon Jams

Black Walnut Winery Bacon Jams

Who doesn’t love bacon? Black Walnut recently started carrying The Bacon Jams, spreadable bacon that you can put on crackers or bread, add to a cheese plate or take home to use in all of your favorite recipes. With a half pound of bacon in every jar, the wine pairings are endless.

Bridge Street Chocolates

Black Walnut Winery Bridge Street ChocolatesIt’s well known that wine and chocolate are pairing nirvana. In Phoenixville, Bridge Street Chocolates and Black Walnut Winery have teamed up for annual chocolate pairings for the last several years. Gail Warner, owner and chocolatier, is so in sync with the wines that she can recommend some perfect pairings for you if you stop in.

Bring her chocolates to the Phoenixville tasting room and do a self-guided wine and chocolate tour. Give the tasting room 24–48 hours notice and they can create an expert pairing for you and some friends. “Everyone knows wine and chocolate are a perfect match, but Bridge Street and Black Walnut are a great team because of the pride we both take in providing an exceptional product to our customers, and a memorable experience when combining them.”

Partnered Events

Sadsburyville Fire Company

Black Walnut Winery Fire & Ice

Black Walnut Winery and Sadsburyville Fire Company are teaming up for the fourth year in a row to bring the Fire and Wine Festival to Black Walnut Winery’s Sadsburyville location. The event, which takes place this year on October 8, is a celebration of three of man’s greatest discoveries: wine, music and fire! A portion of the proceeds from this fun fall festival is donated to the fire company as a thank you for manning that giant bonfire every year, and for their brave and selfless dedication to our community.

Farmers’ Market Rotation

Stay tuned to the Black Walnut Winery event schedule for up-to-the minute details on local farm markets where you can purchase the award-winning wines while perusing booths of seasonal produce, cheeses and delectable snacks.

Lance Castle, owner and winemaker, touts, “As a small local business ourselves, we are always excited to work with other businesses in an effort to push more locally made products to the forefront of PA commerce. Even those unconventional relationships and pairings can bring out the best in each other. Thankfully, wine goes with just about everything.” We couldn’t agree more.
