Your Mom’s Place Serves Traditional—and Deliciously Innovative—Breakfast Fare

I’ve always been a breakfast girl, and one of my favorite local Phoenixville breakfast stops has been Your Mom’s Place since it opened a couple years ago. When I heard it was being sold, I was alarmed—would it still be a breakfast place? Would it still be Your Mom’s Place? Would it still be as good, with no-nonsense good ingredients prepared with love? Could I still get a plate-sized pancake?

I needn’t have worried.

New owner Bill Rutter clearly loves breakfast as much as I do. My husband, Stephen, and I recently stopped in for a visit, and Bill served up some old favorites as well as some delicious new specialties.

“We LOVE breakfast,” he said. “We enjoy having the opportunity of serving people first thing in the morning and being a part of their day. Breakfast has come a long way over the past decade. I love that that barrier of the typical eggs and bacon has been broken; however, we love our staple items and will never change the ‘traditional’ side of our breakfast menu.”

That’s what this breakfast girl loves to hear.

Bill prepared my favorite, a mushroom and Swiss omelet, and it was delicate, eggy and wonderful, with locally sourced mushrooms and aged Swiss cheese. He also brought out one of his new favorites, the Phoenix Benedict. A slice of grilled, whole-grain bread sits below a perfectly cooked over-easy egg with spicy, flavorful chorizo sausage crumbles, all topped with a tangy orange chipotle sauce. It’s a marriage of sweet, spicy and savory that you’ll remember long after you’ve left Your Mom’s Place.

Another standout dish at the new Your Mom’s Place is the over-easy egg laid on whole-grain toast with avocado and caramelized leeks perched atop. Creamy, salty and smoky, it’s clear that this dish is going to be a popular one.

Of course, you can still get plate-sized buttermilk pancakes, light and fluffy, and delicious home-fried potatoes along with your three-egg omelet with choice of traditional toppings, which pair well with the strong, delicious served coffee.

Bill is a Phoenixville-Royersford area native, and he’s been looking for an opportunity to serve the the food he loves in the locale he loves. “My wife and I have always loved Phoenixville,” he explained. When asked how he got into cooking professionally, he talked about starting in the graphic design world, then giving up that training to pursue his love of cooking. With some time off to raise a family, his culinary career spans nearly 20 years.

Bill is looking forward to being an active member of the Phoenixville community—not just by serving us breakfast but also by holding special events. For instance, “We recently launched a quarterly event at Mom’s Place that we call ‘Giving Is Living,” he said. “We partnered with the Good Samaritan Shelter and were able to donate over $300 to the organization. Our next ‘Giving Is Living’ week will be in September and we will be partnering with Operation Backpack in Pottstown. We believe in giving back and are excited to be part of the Phoenixville community.”

Your Mom's Place

It’s clear to this breakfast girl that the new management of Your Mom’s Place knows what it takes to make a successful breakfast stop—and we’ll be watching, and tasting—to see what happens next.
