Local Artisan Purveyors Take Center Stage at Steel City Coffee House

Recently married duo Laura Vernola and Ed Simpson purchased Steel City Coffee House after it closed abruptly in May. Since reopening on June 15, Steel City has focused on continuing the tradition of great coffee, delicious food and incredible live entertainment.

Steel City Coffee House sources locally and supports small businesses. New at Steel City is Hobo Ed’s Artisan Coffee—sustainably grown, ethically sourced coffees roasted in small artisan batches at Stoudt’s Wonderful Good Market in Adamstown, PA.

“After meeting and tasting the many coffees of this region we both agreed that Hobo Ed’s Coffee exceeded our expectations,” shares Simpson. He continues, “Our customers rave about our cold brew on a daily basis and we are now brewing two batches a day.”

Steel City also works with Elizabeth Stoudt of Adamstown’s Wonderful Good Market, Beverly’s Pastry Shop in Pottstown and Baba’s Brew in Phoenixville. Steel City offers three seasonal types of Baba’s Brew Kombucha on tap. Baba’s Bucha is handcrafted in small batches using only fair trade organic ingredients and local seasonal produce. It is vegan, raw, gluten free and has no artificial flavorings or colors.

The couple also enjoys shopping for produce at the Saturday Phoenixville Farmers Market. Breakfast is available all day and includes a green chili breakfast burrito, poached egg and potato breakfast bowl and an unbelievable breakfast flatbread. The full menu offerings include daily specials as well as soups, salads, sandwiches and a variety of baked goods. Stay tuned to PA Eats for a full report on the new menu soon!

Steel City Coffee House has been a Phoenixville staple since the late ’90s and has hosted many local and national acts. Watch live performers in an intimate setting every Thursday through Saturday. On Sundays, family-friendly acts are often featured, including the Philadelphia Main Line Ukulele Group. The downtown mainstay was even included in a Classic Towns fall road trip video highlighting some of the area’s best destinations.

Steel City Coffee House is open 7 days a week and also has complimentary Wi-Fi.
