The Lucky Well to Open Second Location in Philly’s Spring Arts District

Since opening its doors in 2013, The Lucky Well has been serving up some of the best Memphis-style ribs, brisket, smoked wings and side dishes in Ambler. By this time next year, Chad Rosenthal’s BBQ joint will have a second location in Philly’s Spring Arts District, and maybe even a third location if we’re so lucky (stand by for more info on that).

While the Ambler location is more of a traditional sit-down restaurant model where guests order BBQ in half or full portions from a server, the new spot will be“cafeteria-style,” like how it’s done in the barbecue spots down south. As Rosenthal describes it: “True barbecue – where the meat is sliced in front of you.” In the counter service model, guests order meat(s) by the pound and sides (think baked beans, baked Mac & cheese, collard greens), then have a seat with their meal. Rosenthal is staying true to how he learned how to cook in Memphis, and he’s even installing a wood burning broiler. You can select your burgers and other dry-aged meats and have them broiled before your eyes. This is what meat lovers’ dreams are made of, people.

Similar to the Ambler location, the bar will focus on brown liquors, some from Kentucky, some from local distilleries. Craft cocktails will also be an important component of the bar program. And the draft beers will be from local breweries. How local? So local you could basically roll the kegs around the block, from neighbors like Roy-PitzLove City Brewing and Yards.

If you can’t wait for the Philly location to open next year, make your way to Ambler to get a taste of Rosenthal’s BBQ.

Find The Lucky Well at 111 E. Butler Ave. in Ambler; phone (215) 646-4242. The new location will be at 990 Spring Garden St. in Philadelphia.
