Coming to Philly in Spring 2018: South Philly Smökhaus

South Philly Smökhaus

To anyone craving melt-in-your-mouth smoked brisket, pulled pork and other meaty fare created in large smokers, get ready: South Philly Smökhaus is coming for you!

Set to open in spring of 2018, South Philly Smökhaus will be taking over a portion of the Bok building, located at 1901 South 9th Street. South Philly Smökhaus’ Eric Daelhousen is joining forces with Robert Passio of Giunta’s Prime Shop to open this BBQ restaurant and butcher shop.

Daelhousen is not new to the barbecue scene. He has been catering weddings, events and hosting pop-ups all around Philadelphia, especially in South Philly. South Philly Smökhaus has been featured at the Aquinas Center, Bok Bar, pop-up BBQ nights at The Dutch, Brewery ARS and Inspired Brews Fermentary, to name a few of his prior appearances.

So, what’s in store for future patrons of South Philly Smökhaus? The eatery will be a BYOB, fast-casual BBQ restaurant, featuring traditional barbecued meats cooked low and slow on a wood-fired smoker. In addition to freshly prepared dishes, the restaurant space will also offer a butcher counter, where customers can pick up organic and locally-sourced meats. The butcher counter will be operated by Passio, who brings over 30 years of experience in the butchery industry to the table.

Once South Philly Smökhaus is open for business, hours of operation will be 11 a.m.–8 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m.–9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m.–4 p.m. on Sunday.
