York Blue Moon restaurant in Downtown York’s WeCo neighborhood has undergone a recent expansion and the newly renovated restaurant had its celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, March 31, to commemorate the event.
Chef Darrell Tobin and his wife and co-owner Janine joined with Downtown Inc this past weekend to introduce the spruced-up version of their beloved restaurant to the York community. York Blue Moon is located at 361 West Market Street. The couple opened York Blue Moon in 2006 and the expansion has been about four years in the making, ever since they bought the former antiques shop next door.
“Janine has worked on this expansion with me every step of the way. None of this would be possible without her hard work and dedication,” Tobin said.
York Blue Moon already draws a crowd for its popular happy hour offerings, and it’s certain to become even more popular with the renovated, larger bar, new bar menu and refreshed cocktail, beer and wine offerings.
The recent expansion also enables further accessibility, accommodating wheelchairs of up to 42 inches, and featuring larger bathrooms to provide extra comfort for all patrons. Improving accessibility was the major impetus of the expansion, said Tobin, who expects the change will help him turn an even stronger business.
“I just want to do the best I know how, and we attract customers that appreciate that,” Tobin said. “The new expansion will offer an even better experience for our clientele and make the restaurant more accessible to everyone. Not only did we want to increase our business, we wanted to increase our customer base by making it easier for everyone to enjoy a fine dining experience at Blue Moon.”
Another key aspect of York Blue Moon’s expansion is a new green space, the Yard, landscaped by the Garden Club of York.
York Blue Moon’s expansion leaves the restaurant positioned to take advantage of future growth on the West Market Street corridor, where Royal Square Development and Construction (RSDC) is bringing 13 new, high-end apartments and new retail space to the same block as York Blue Moon.
