Sly Fox Brewing Company Partners with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation

Sly Fox Brewing Company offered its beers to the crowd at the very special Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) 12th Annual Lemon Ball this month. This was the second year in a row Sly Fox Brewing participated in the event.

This was also the first place in which the news of Sly Fox’s new brew to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation was announced. For every case of Alex’s Lemon Wheat Ale sold, a portion of the proceeds goes directly to ALSF. The organization was named for Alexandra “Alex” Scott who, when she was just four years old, held her first childhood cancer fundraiser in her front yard and raised over $2,000 with a lemonade stand. ALSF has since raised more than $150 million to help those with childhood cancer and to aid in funding research to find a cure.

Mark Weinmann, sales manager for Sly Fox Brewing Company, and Jay Scott, Alex’s father and co-executive director of ALSF along with his wife Liz Scott, met several years ago as neighbors. More recently, Weinmann brought this collaboration idea to Scott as a way to raise money for ALSF.

“Basically, I floated the idea of Sly Fox brewing an authentic lemon shandy, a portion of whose proceeds could go to support the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation,” says Weinmann. “Craft beer drinkers are good people and ALSF is a local organization making great strides.”

With a significant presence throughout the Philadelphia region — and throughout the entire Sly Fox distribution area —the ALSF mission to find a cure broadcasts to a national audience.

“At first we talked about a shandy,” recalls Sly Fox Brewmaster Brian O’Reilly. “We did a ton of experimentation with lemon, tested dozens of flavor samples, and eventually settled on a putting a new spin on a traditional style.”

Sly Fox elected to brew a wheat beer with natural lemon oil and lemon zest instead of an extract. Slowly adding different amounts to the recipe, the brewers evaluated aroma and flavor to develop the most natural, refreshing and flavorful result.

“Like Alex, we believe that every person can make a difference,” adds Weinmann. “Together, we can bring about a cure. Please join us in making lemons into lemonade by drinking Alex’s Lemon Wheat Ale!”

Sly Fox Brewing Company’s Alex’s Lemon Wheat Ale, a citrus-infused hefeweizen, will be distributed by the brewery on draft and in 12-ounce cans starting this spring!
